Green Man Festival takes place on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of August and is held at Glanusk Park in the Brecon Beacons, Wales.

Although the UK festival season has been here for some time now, there are still a few left towards the end of the summer. One still to come is Green Man Festival, taking place on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd August.

Green Man is a music festival which also promotes environmental awareness, and celebrates literature, science, comedy and film. It began in 2003 as a one-day event organised by 3 friends, with 300 people attending, at Craig-y-Nos Castle, and over the years has grown in size and changed location.

Glanusk Park

Now held at Glanusk Park Estate in the Brecon Beacons, the site has beautiful scenery with the surrounding Sugar Loaf Mountain and the River Usk. The 2008 festival capped tickets at 10,000 and although much larger than it's early beginnings, the festival is still intimate and peaceful.

Green Man has a magical reputation, and deservedly so, with The Observer describing it as 'an indie-folk fairyland where antler-wearing Druids lead processions of children past wishing trees'. The settings are stunning in the Welsh park-land, with fairy-lights lighting the paths at night, and a communal campfire area where a bonfire is lit all night and mulled wine and other drinks are served til 5am.

Family Friendly UK Festival

The festival is laid-back and very family-friendly - the campsite is divided into family, quiet and general areas so anyone needing a good nights sleep can have their peace and quiet, while those wanting to stay up late can do so without disturbing others. This year, festival-goers can also turn their weekend into a holiday and stay for the entire week – the campsite opens on the 17th for those who have purchased a holiday ticket.

The Green Man festival provides entertainment for everyone, from the 'Little Folks' child area to the 'Nature and Nurture Massage and Therapy Area'. Alongside these are of course the music stages, and the Stables courtyard bar.

The food on offer is great, catering for vegan and vegetarian needs. There is a large range on offer, from Mexican and Indian to tea and cake stalls, and also the Pie Minister serving a selection of home-made pies that will keep spirits up regardless of the Welsh weather.

Previous acts have included Donovan, Richard Thompson, The Incredible String Band, Devendra Banhart, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, and Vashti Bunyan. This years line-up includes Animal Collecive, Jarvis Cocker, Noah and the Whale, Andrew Bird, Camera Obscura, Emmy the Great, and Vetiver. For this years full line-up, see the Green Man Festival official website.
