Kansas City, Here I Come...

Join me on my musical odyssey through the folk underworld of my hometown, Kansas City. Here's a sneak peak of what you can expect.

When "primal Dawn spreads on the eastern sky her fingers of pink light," I will be nestled into one of those comfy, carpet-cleaner-smelling airline seats and on my way back to my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. It has been more than a year and a half since I was last in "the biggest little town in America," as I like to call it.

If you have read my profile, you already know that I left the United States when I was 18, which meant that I never got to experience firsthand all the city's musicians had to offer, because most of the shows took place in the those magical Shangri-Las called "bars." From the jazz of 18th & Vine to today's bluegrass darlings, The Wilders, Kansas City has often found itself two-steppin' on the cutting edge of music.

So, between ingesting massive quantities of ribs and visiting relatives (that's right, we're technically related...), I'll be sending along the murky polaroids taken during my musical odyssey into the netherworld

of Kansas City folk music. The furies have began to whisper that we are likely to encounter groups such as The Last Call Girls, The Elders and

Alacartoona. Sirens all.

Since I'm married, I have to stay away from all the "crazy little women" that they supposedly have there. But that means I will be listening to the music extra carefully. Drop me a digital postcard if you have any additional suggestions of shows I should catch or artists I should harass.
