A quick apology for being away, and then some initial thoughts on Bob Dylan’s new album, Modern Times. Didn’t you miss all of our hot folk-talk?

Hi folk fans! Sorry if I have not posted for the last few days. I recently started some classes and a new job, so my schedule was thrown into disarray and it was hard to get articles online in a timely fashion.

However, that's over now and everything seems to be settling down. So I just had to say thank you to everyone who has continued to check the website. Updates will be regular again starting this week.

So what's going on in the wonderful world of folk? Well, the story of the moment is of course Bob Dylan's new album, Modern Times. The record has received nearly unanimous praise from all the heavy hitters of the music industry, or at least the people who like to criticize other people's creative work. They just can't find much to disparage this time.

There was much pre-release hype for this one. Including a great interview with the musical guru himself in Rolling Stone. As a result, when the album was released on August 29, it shot straight to Number 1 on the Billboard album chart.

I know not all of you are as big of a Dylan fan as we are here at Folk101, but this album is truly a gem. It seems like the old master has once again found comfort in his own skin. The songs are serious, self-assured, and thought-provoking, but not without their moments of mirth.

The new record is the perfect compliment to 1997's Time Out of Mind and 2001's Love and Theft. The trio represents one of the strongest bursts of songwriting in Dylan's entire career.

Check back for Folk101's complete review. It will tell you all you need to know before you head to the record store or iTunes.
