Grizzly Bears All Around

New folk-rock sensations are roaring across the blogosphere

Brooklyn’s Grizzly Bear (and their namesake) have been getting a lot of attention lately. Sure this band looks soft and cuddly, but they have some major chops on ‘em.

Here is your forest survival tip of the day: I have an artist friend who once spent a number of months in the wilderness by herself. One day she was out on a walk and came across a number of bears foraging for food. Scared out of her wits, she decided the best action was to simply get on all fours and pretend to be looking for her own nuts and berries.

The ruse worked. The bears did not maul her to death but, in fact, paid little attention and went about their bear business. So, if you ever find yourself in the same position, you might consider communicating with these big ferocious predators “animal-to-animal.”

That brings me to today’s blog subject. There is a great new up-and-coming band from Brooklyn called Grizzly Bear and they have an album out called Yellow House.

The band is getting some major attention in the cyberworld. They are shooting a new video, getting some great reviews, and even finding their musical peers are paying them the ultimate tribute of covering some of their songs. Already! Call the WWF because these guys have claws!

One last note, since I mentioned Stephen Colbert yesterday, I though you might find it funny that he has named bears as the greatest thread currently facing America. Like a tasty salmon swimming upstream, he just can’t seem to figure out what's cool. First the Decemberists now this.
