A few weeks ago, Folk101 received a review copy of Matt Costa's debut album Songs We Sing. The record was solid, full of catchy, upbeat songs, but it did not immediately snag our gnat-sized attention span.
Then, on July 7, Folk101 was fortunate enough to attend Mr. Costa's show at La Tulipe in Montreal, where we make our headquarters. The show was packed, and it was clear that something about that album had escaped us (yes, even the experts sometimes have an off day), but had not slipped past those packed shoulder-to-shoulder in beer-sloshing mayhem.
When Costa took the stage, what we missed became glaringly obvious. His music is addictive. The songs are smart, sensitive, uplifting and basically just a whole lot of fun. This up-and-coming troubadour sent Folk101 home with a smile and humming a happy tune. And now, the album seems even better. It's truly a perfect compliment to the sunny weather.
Check back for Folk101's complete review of the show.
Until then, though, you can amuse yourself by scrolling down and looking over the dates remaining for Matt & Co. on his current tour. If you have a chance and he is coming to a town near you, I highly recommend checking out the show. Also, see Matt Costa's calendar of performances for more information.
