Nothing says summer like large, multi-day outdoor music festivals. Canada is fortunate enough to have some of the best folk fests in the entire world, one of which will be taking place in the nation's capital in mid-August.
From Thursday, August 17 to Sunday, August 20, Ottawa will be transformed into a magical musical paradise, where folk legends regularly congregate to sing, strum, and generally dance around open fires.
If you are in or around Ottawa next month, Folk101 highly recommends that you participate in the inevitable carousing. Here are some of our picks:
Evening Performers
Greg Brown (one of Folk101's all-time favorite performers!)
Steve Earle (another living legend!)
Daytime Performers
Mike Evin (an old friend from Montreal, who is now taking the world by storm)
Remember these are just the performers whose music we know and enjoy. There will be great music to discover at every turn. For a complete list of performers, click here.
As an added bonus, you can camp nearby. Make sure you bring your instrument of choice and plenty of bug spray to keep those pesky mosquitoes away.

Also this week, keep your eyes peeled for Folk101's review of Mark Kozelek's recent show in Montreal. The frontman for Sun Kil Moon put on a great show at Main Hall on July 9 and Folk101 was there. Sorry that it took so long to get it up, but you know... busy, busy, busy.
