Folk101 adds to the hype surrounding M.Ward’s new album, Post-War, and gives you a sneak peek into what subjects our review will touch on this week.

For those of you out there who follow folk music, you have probably already heard the abbreviated name of M.Ward and his new album Post-War. This fifth effort from the young singer/songwriter, who currently calls New Hampshire home, has been repeatedly called one of the year’s best albums.

Released in late August, it features a collection of songs that dive deep into the modern psyche. Ward is known for his witty, introspective lyrics. On Post-War, however, he ventures for the first time into the world of full musical accompaniment. In addition to a talented band, he is joined on several tracks by the likes of Neko Case, Mike Mogis, and Jim James of My Morning Jacket fame.

The album is interesting because it attempts to look past today’s social and political strife to understand how people can begin to heal themselves and the riffs between one another in the post-9/11 world. A noble effort, if I’ve ever heard one.

If you are interested, come back in the next couple of days. Folk101 will weigh in on this album and let you know if you should believe the likes of such small, insignificant musical sources as Rollingstone, Vanity Fair, and MOJO.

Until then, here’s Folk101 wishing you a healthy and happy week…
