Folk101 will always dedicate these pages to seeking out and giving exposure to deserving, but little-known musicians.
As a result, this week will feature two interesting guitar-strummers who are making a go of it on their own, and in the process, producing some incredible projects, completely of their own devising.
Last week, we got to know Gregory Page in a three-part interview, which frequently touched on the pros and cons of being an independent musician. This week, we close out our coverage with a review of his recent release, Love Made Me Drunk. Long a staple of the San Diego music scene, he sets his sights on Paris this time around. The result is a fantastic concept album that actually works. Check back for all the details.
Also this week, Folk101 will be launching a new series in which we profile unsigned musicians. We have the honor of highlighting the work of Montreal guitar guru, Derek Olive in our first installment.
Olive studied classical guitar for 15 years, and his extraordinary talent on that instrument shines through on his first full-length album, Our Passing Nows. He is also a witty lyricist and arresting singer. Folk101's folk-pumping heart is all aflutter to be able to introduce his music to a wider audience. Tune in later for a brief profile and review of the album.
Then you will be completely prepared for Friday. What's on Friday? Well, that's when Mr. Olive will be launching the new record! If you are in Montreal, please go out and support him, pick up the album while you're there, and let him know that you read about him on Suite101.com.
